Chairman’s Message
By Bill Sims, CPA
Welcome, November, the month traditionally set aside for gratitude and giving back. November is also the Texas Society of CPAs’ (TXCPA) Month of Giving, and we have some excellent opportunities for you to demonstrate your gratitude by participating in this charitable initiative that contributes substantially to the community that supports us.
On November 9, 16 and 30, we’ll be making sandwiches for the homeless at TangoTab’s Feed the City program, and on November 19, there’s a chance to help out the Collin County Children’s Advocacy Center by wrapping boxes for their annual holiday toy collection project. You can register for any or all of these events by clicking here. On November 15, our young professionals will once again be co-sponsoring the annual social event Fall Fest, along with several other young professional associations from the Dallas area. This event is always a hit and benefits Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Dallas. You can find out more about Fall Fest here. We are very blessed and there are many opportunities this month to reach out and give generously to those in need; I urge you to take part in as many as possible!
Speaking of humanitarian service, we are teaming again with The Dallas Foundation to co-sponsor the 2nd annual Young Philanthropy Award. This program honors the outstanding charitable activities of TXCPA Dallas members, 40 years old and under. Finalists will be honored and the winner announced at the Annual Meeting of Members in January. You can read more about this project elsewhere in the newsletter.
Other fun TXCPA Dallas happenings through the end of the year include the November Thirsty Thursday gathering on November 21, at Blue Mesa Grill on Montfort Road. Another event I know you’ll want to attend, the Annual Holiday Party, will take place this year again at Park City Club on December 10. Come and help us celebrate the holiday season, TXCPA Dallas style!
If you’re in need of CPE, we have the second of our 2019-20 Member Appreciation CPE Series events coming up on November 12, and the third is scheduled for December 19. Ethics courses are available on November 14 and December 6, as well as CPE courses in the chapter training facility on November 21 and December 9. Be on the lookout for the opening of Convergence 2020 registration, coming soon. Watch your email inbox and our website, as you’ll want to take advantage of Early Bird pricing and secure your spot for this outstanding event.
You may have received already a member satisfaction survey from TXCPA. This is an important undertaking that will help guide our organization, locally and statewide, into a more successful and meaningful future. I strongly encourage you to assist in that mission by taking a moment to share your opinions on this survey.
We also encourage everyone to stay abreast of TXCPA Dallas happenings by joining our LinkedIn group. Join and be informed of new classes, social events and other important information related to your association.
In this season of thanksgiving, I’d like to express my appreciation and gratitude to you for your support of our organization and all the others in North Texas. You perform a great service, and we at TXCPA Dallas are thankful for each and every one of you!

2019-20 Board of Directors

Family Outreach Dallas
Seeks Board Member
Family Outreach Dallas (www.familyoutreachdallas.org) is a partnership of community volunteers and professional staff working together to strengthen families. We provide information, support and education that every parent needs to nurture safe, healthy and happy children. Our evidence-based curriculum includes:
- Parents As Teachers (Affiliate)
- Triple P Positive Parenting Program
- WHO – child safety program
Since our beginning in 1989, Family Outreach Dallas staff and volunteers have completed home visits with over 5,000 clients
Over 2,500 parents have completed a parenting class at Family Outreach Dallas.
More than 16,000 Dallas ISD children have participated in our W.H.O. Programs
This organization remains as the only Family Outreach Dallas group, out of an original 14+ that was originally begun by the CPS and funded by the State of Texas. In 2003 – 5, the state discontinued funding this entire organization and now we are the only group still functioning. We are in the process of transition to ensure continued longevity with the amazing success we have experienced in making a difference in lives of so many at-risk families. One of the steps we are taking is to expand our board, in size and view, beyond the current individuals who are previous CPS and state employees.
if anyone would be interested in getting better acquainted with us and possibly serving on our board, we would welcome them to visit our meetings, meet our staff and other board members. Thank you for sharing this message with your membership.
Please feel free to call with any questions at 214.923.2230.
Welcome, New Members!

Each month, we will spotlight one of this year’s TXCPA Dallas Scholarship winners. Join us this month in getting to know University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) graduate accounting student, Zachary DeCamp, and welcoming him to TXCPA Dallas.
In high school Zachary DeCamp was assured that he’d have the purpose and plan for his life figured out by graduation, but it didn’t quite turn out that way. After graduation, he spent a semester at a private college and one at a community college but still hadn’t found his passion. Then in 2015 he took an Introduction to Financial Accounting course and everything clicked into place. His career path was set.
Zachary attended Eastfield College in 2017, where he was named “Student Leader of the Year”. In the fall of that same year, he transferred to UTD where he has received the State Farm, Phi Theta Kappa Transfer, Comet Transfer, David L. Holmberg, and Jindal School of Management Professional Program in Accounting Scholarships. He has been on the Dean’s List and participated in both the Grant Thornton and Walmart Case Competitions in which his teams placed 2nd and 1st, respectively. He has served as a mentor in the UTD Transfer Mentor Program and as a member of the Undergraduate Dean’s Council. He holds an Associates degree in Liberal Arts and received his B.S. in Accounting, magna cum laude, in May of this year.
Zachary has interned at Pioneer Natural Resources and at Deloitte & Touche, where he will become a full-time auditor in the fall of 2020.
TXCPA Dallas welcomes and congratulates Zachary DeCamp.
