Chairman’s Message
By Tim Pike, CPA
How great was Convergence 2019?? The conference is over now, but it will surely be remembered as one of our best! Approximately 1,100 of you came together on Monday, April 29th for the tops in accounting and financial education. Ross Perot, Jr. entertained the lunch crowd on the Cowboys practice field with an insightful talk about future economic growth, and we were very fortunate to attract a stellar slate of session speakers. I encourage all DCPAS members to review the list of sponsors in this newsletter edition and on our website and be sure to consider them when you’re in the market for the services they provide.
We have some excellent educational and social events coming up this month. On May 7th, Bill Moss will present the next in our Controller/CFO CPE Series events with the presentation, “Transforming Your Role from Controller to Business Partner”, and on May 31st, Jennifer Johnson will help us further our computer skills with her “Intermediate Excel” course. Our monthly social event, Thirsty Thursday, will take place on May 16th at Coal Vines. I hope to see you there!
The end of this month will mark the end of my term as DCPAS Board Chairman, which has been an amazing and rewarding experience. The Dallas CPA Society has a rich history serving its members! My sincere gratitude goes to the eleven individuals who served on the Board of Directors with me this year. Your skill, wisdom and dedication inspire me and make me proud to be a member of this association. Thank you to the committee chairs and members, and all of the volunteers who worked so hard this year to further the mission of the DCPAS. It is your ideas and effort that fuel the high performance of this institution. To the Dallas CPA Society staff – Meg, Laura and Bridgette – you make the wheels turn and the greatness happen! And to you as well, DCPAS members. I have thoroughly enjoyed having your company, hearing your thoughts and receiving your help and encouragement on this journey. Bill Sims, a dedicated and long-time member of the Chapter, will take the Chairman’s gavel for 2019-20, and I am confident that we can all expect a great year under his leadership.
Again, thanks to all of you, and I wish you the very best!
Tim Pike, CPA
2018-19 Chairman

Each month, we will spotlight one of this year’s Dallas CPA Society Scholarship winners. Join us this month in getting to know Southern Methodist University (SMU) graduate accounting student Jordan Vallee and welcoming her to the Dallas CPA Society.
Jordan Vallee is excited about becoming a CPA, largely because of the respect she knows is synonymous with the profession. She writes: “Being a CPA is an indication to others that you are are knowledgeable and hard-working….CPAs are the accountants that become partners, CFOs and CEOs. They are held to a higher standard of ethics and intellect that I want to be regarded as having.”
Jordan has been a super-achiever during her college career. She received both the Cox School of Business’ Merit Scholarship and SMU’s Founders Scholarship and has been on the SMU Honor Roll with High Distinction from 2014-2018. Other accolades include: Outstanding Accounting Major, Delta Sigma Pi Scholarship Key, Hilltop New Century Scholar and membership in Mortar Board. She has shown her leadership abilities as Alpha Chi Omega’s Vice-President of Finance and its Junior Panhellenic Delegate in 2015; Director of Logistics on the founding board of Reading for a Reason, a nonprofit business that promotes literacy and goals for higher education; and Co-Chair of the Morale Committee for SMU’s Dance Marathon benefitting the Children’s Miracle Network.
Jordan graduated summa cum laude with her Accounting BBA in May of 2018, and will receive her Masters in Accounting this month. She anticipates passing her CPA exam on the first try following graduation and will start her full-time job at PwC in July.
The Dallas CPA Society welcomes and congratulates Jordan Vallee.
