Chairman’s Message
By Bill Sims, CPA
The winter days are winding down and at TXCPA Dallas, we are “March”-ing toward an exciting Spring!
Convergence 2020, to be held on Monday, May 4, at the Omni Frisco Hotel at The Star, is only a couple of months away. If you haven’t registered yet, we encourage you to do that right away as space will be limited and Early Bird pricing runs out on the 17th of this month. The full Member price of $75 is a bargain for an event of this caliber; the Early Bird price of $50 for a full day of quality education is a steal you don’t want to miss out on. This year’s conference offers 26 sessions, including a luncheon keynote presentation by Joseph Daniels, CEO of Arlington’s new National Medal of Honor Museum. Leading edge information. Excellent networking opportunity. State-of-the-art venue. Lunch on the Cowboys’ practice field. Price: $50. Register now.
And speaking of Convergence, don’t miss our April 23rd Thirsty Thursday Networking Hour where we will recognize our Convergence 2020 sponsors. This event is scheduled for 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Blue Mesa Grill on Montfort Drive. We always have a large turnout for this gathering, so it’s an excellent chance to visit with old friends, meet plenty of new ones and give a big thank-you to the good people who make our signature event possible year after year. There is no charge to attend, but we do ask that you let us know you’ll be there, which you can do by clicking here. And if you’re interested, there is still time to become a Convergence 2020 sponsor. Read all about it here.
Besides Convergence, we have several other CPE opportunities in the upcoming months. In addition to our monthly Ethics class, the Business & Industry Committee has organized a Behind the Scenes lunch and CPE event on March 25, at the new Dallas Holocaust Museum. On April 9, Sarah Grenier of BKD, Bill Moss and I will present a four-hour CPE event, Nonprofit Accounting Topics, in TXCPA Dallas training facility, and save the date – April 20 – when our friend Dave Zander will present a session on Social Security, also in the training facility. On May 13, Tim Pike and Taylor Franta of Howard LLP will discuss Employee Benefit Plan Audits. Our schedule is packed with educational opportunities, and we invite you to make the most of all of them.
Have you made your CPA-PAC donation for the year? CPA-PAC is TXCPA’s grassroots political action committee. Our financial donations to the committee contribute much needed funds to political candidates as well as incumbents who understand the importance of a sound Texas economy and the critical role of the CPA in preserving the state’s business climate. Just as other professions have recognized the critical importance of political action committees, CPAs also have too much at stake to commit anything less than 100% to our political efforts. No CPA in Texas can afford not to give to the CPA-PAC, so I encourage you to click here and support the association’s tireless efforts on our behalf.
Have a happy and productive month and remember to sign up for Convergence 2020 before March 17. We look forward to sharing the day with you.

Scholarship Winner Spotlight
Each month, we will spotlight one of this year’s TXCPA Dallas Scholarship winners. Join us this month in getting to know Southern Methodist University (SMU) graduate accounting student, Andrew Ramsey, and welcoming him to TXCPA Dallas.
At SMU, Andrew Ramsey has excelled at – pretty much – everything he’s done. In December of 2018, he received a Bachelors of Business Administration in Accounting with minors in Spanish and Religious Studies. He received the Dean’s List Award for academic excellence in all semesters. He was awarded the Distinguished BBA Scholar and Second Century Scholarships from the university, as well as the Merit Scholarship from the MSA Program. He has been a member of the University Honors Program, Alpha Chi and Beta Gamma Sigma academic honor societies, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and the Spanish National Honor Society.
Andrew served as President of The Hill, a church college ministry at SMU. He was also a volunteer with 1960 Hope Center, a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and played on the NCAA D1 SMU Men’s Soccer Team.
Andrew has interned at Outlook Financial Group in The Woodlands and with PwC, where he has accepted an offer of full-time employment upon receipt of his Masters in May.
TXCPA Dallas welcomes and congratulates Andrew Ramsey.
