Chairman’s Message

By Tim Pike, CPA

Convergence 2019 is HOT! This year’s slate of speakers and their topics are sure to entertain and enlighten, and we are particularly delighted to welcome this year’s keynote speaker, Ross Perot, Jr., Chairman of both The Perot Group and Hillwood.

We are still accepting sponsorship commitments for the Convergence conference. Offering exposure to over 6,000 CPAs at fees ranging from $500 for a quarter-page program ad to as little as $4,000 for a booth-level presence on Event Day, this is easily one of the best applications of a company’s marketing dollars! Contact Banicia Watts (972-960-8311; or bwatts@cpadallas.org) to get in on this high yield investment!

Our next networking event is on April 18th at Blue Mesa in Addison. This social hour will honor our Convergence 2019 Sponsors, so register your attendance, mark your calendars and come help us give a well-deserved round of applause to the people who assist in making Convergence the most popular accounting and financial services conference in the region.

As part of the ongoing Controller/CFO CPE Series, Bill Moss will present a four-hour class, Working Capital Best Practices, from 1-5pm on March 28th in the DCPAS Training Facility. We all know how critical solid cash and working capital management is to an organization’s success, and this session will examine various working capital management techniques. You can register for this event by clicking here.

Have a great March, and if you’ve not already done so, there is no better time than the present to register for Convergence 2019. Remember, Early Bird pricing ends March 18th.

Scholarship Winner Spotlight

Each month, we will spotlight one of this year’s Dallas CPA Society Scholarship winners. Join us this month in getting to know University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) graduate accounting student, Schyleur Song, and welcoming her to the Dallas CPA Society.

Schyleur Song’s two major motivators are her commitment to the accounting profession and a passion for assisting others. Both are prominent facets of her college career and her personal life and have helped her achieve a high level of excellence. She has consistently been on the President’s and Dean’s lists at UTD and has maintained a 3.98 GPA, all while taking a full load of challenging courses, and counseling and tutoring her classmates.

Schyleur is a member of Beta Alpha Psi and was awarded the organization’s Distinguished Member Scholarship in 2017. She is a member of the Dallas chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) and is also a member of UTD’s IIA/ISACA/ACFE student chapter. Her interest in technology and its languages led her into membership in the Ethical Hackers of UTD. When she finds time, Schyleur enjoys supporting the Dallas community through volunteer work at the North Texas Food Bank, the Dallas IIA super conferences and at the SPCA animal shelter.

Schyleur graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting in December of 2018, and plans to receive her Master’s in August of 2019. She has served as an internal audit intern for LG Electronics USA Inc. and, more recently, as a corporate tax intern for Southwest Airlines. She plans to pursue an external auditing role in public accounting upon graduation this summer.

The Dallas CPA Society welcomes and congratulates Schyleur Song.

Welcome, January New Members!

TXCPA Chapter Tip Sheet

The Texas Society of CPAs is committed to helping the organizations that employ our members leverage those membership investments to support organizational goals for success. We know each organization has unique needs. TXCPA’s Group Billing Program is tailored to meet those needs.

If you would like to participate in the Group Billing Program or ask any questions, please contact Stephanie King (phone 800-428-0272 x 233 / 972-687-8533).

During tax season, TXCPA builds a volunteer list of CPAs willing to do newspaper/on-camera media interviews. If you know someone who has the time and would be a great candidate to represent the Society, please contact Kari Owen (phone 800-428-0272 x 688 / 972-687-8688). She will contact those recommended and obtain their commitment to participate, which often requires an immediate response to interview requests – especially during a time of high media interest such as tax season.

And remember: TXCPA has a database of talking points to assist with media interviews and can also help with members’ presentation needs (PowerPoint documents, brochures and handouts, etc.).
