Chairman’s Message
By Bill Sims, CPA
And so it begins. Another productive year is off to a great start here at the Dallas CPA Society, and I am honored to be the captain of this enterprise for the next 12 months. I would like to thank and commend Tim Pike and the 2018-19 Board of Directors on a successful year, and I look forward to the challenge of maintaining the high standard they set.
Planning for this year is underway. Our CPE Council is in the process of designing a year of opportunities that will provide you with the best in education at the affordable prices you’re accustomed to receiving as a DCPAS member. The Controller/CFO CPE Series continues with its insightful and entertaining programs geared to those in the Business and Industry sector. The Member Appreciation CPE Series will begin its 2019-20 year in the fall, and many more exciting CPE options are being considered as this new year gets off to a great start. We’ll keep you updated as the schedule develops and class registrations open.
The Leadership Development Academy begins its 2019-20 year this month. We are extremely proud of this initiative, now in its 11th year, for its considerable impact not only on the future of the Chapter, but the entire accounting profession. You can read the names of this year’s Academy students elsewhere in this newsletter.
Committees will be meeting soon to discuss their plans for the new year, so I encourage you, if you have not already, to become a committee member and get involved! These groups are such vital components of our organization, and they need your skills and passion. Click here for a listing of our committees, and if you are interested in joining, please email Laura McFadden to be included in the roster.
We invite you to join us on the 27th of this month for our June Thirsty Thursday social hour at Blue Mesa Grill on Montfort Drive. This continues to be one of our most popular member events, and we hope you’ll come and share a fun evening with your friends and fellow DCPAS members. Dr. Richard Mark teaches our monthly Ethics course on June 17th, and you can find out about “Applying Lean Concepts to Your Accounting Program” at the Controller/CFO CPE Seriescourse on June 27th.
This is a wonderful time to get involved in your professional society, when the new year is just beginning. Join a committee, attend a social hour, register for a class. There has never been a better time to be a DCPAS member, and I’m very glad to have you on this journey with me.
