Chairman’s Message

By Sharon Lukich, CPA

“Time flies when you’re having fun!” If this is true, we must be having a blast at TXCPA Dallas, as the summer is flying past us in a flurry of activity and planning.
This month has some excellent opportunities you’ll want to check out if you’re in need of CPE. Steve Tillinger’s one-day, online Mid-Year Tax Update course takes place on August 11. Steve brings an intelligent, insightful and entertaining touch to this important information in an educational event you won’t want to miss. On August 17, Fred Baker and Kaitlyn Kirkhart of BaCo Tech will be in TXCPA Dallas training facility to discuss how their firm made the challenging year of 2020 one of their best ever. Register for Touch it Once: How 2020 Became my Firm’s Most Productive and Profitable Year and learn the secrets to how one organization thrived in one of the toughest periods in history for businesses worldwide. Our monthly Ethics course, under the leadership of Professor Allison McLeod, is a live, in-person event and is scheduled for August 27. Our CPE Council is busy creating a year chock-full of super courses, so stay tuned!
And don’t forget to join us for Thirsty Thursday on August 19, at Blue Mesa Grill. This monthly social hour is one of our most popular events for some great reasons: great refreshments, great location and a greatopportunity to build relationships with the greatest people on earth, your fellow TXCPA Dallas members! We hope to see you on August 19.
While we’re all in planning mode, I want to remind you that when you’re planning your company’s meetings and classes, TXCPA Dallas has a space available for rent that is excellent for both of these types of events. Find more details in an article elsewhere in this newsletter.
A friendly reminder: The final deadline for TXCPA/TXCPA Dallas membership renewal is August 31. If you have not renewed your membership by that time, you will be dropped from the TXCPA roster. We deeply value your participation in the local Chapter and hope that you do too. To continue receiving all the many benefits of membership, we strongly encourage you, if you haven’t already, to renew your affiliation with the Society at your earliest opportunity.
Wishing you all so much fun that time zooms for you this month. Have a safe and happy August!

Live, In-Person CPE Event

Touch it Once: How 2020 Became my Firm’s

Most Productive and Profitable Year

presented by

Ford Baker

CEO, BaCo Tech

 Kaitlyn Kirkhart

CCO, BaCo Tech

Tuesday, August 17, 2021

1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

This is a live, in-person event.
Course Description: The year 2020 has been a challenging one for everyone, CPAs included. For one CPA firm, however, it was the most productive, profitable, and efficient year ever. This firm experienced its highest realization of 140% across all clients, despite not charging extra for PPP loans and loan forgiveness. They did more work for more clients in less time—all while using fewer people and providing better client service. There was higher client satisfaction with no last-minute filings or surprises. All this efficiency was possible because this firm adopted a “touch-it-once philosophy.” This philosophy begins with efficiently gathering client data and integrating it into a standard workflow that combines engagement letters and billing into one task once a year. Streamlining tasks has allowed this firm to focus on client service and be more efficient in filing tax returns. They’ve been more productive and profitable, navigating COVID-19 and PPP service obstacles with ease.
Key points:
  • How to efficiently gather and integrate client data
  • How to increase productivity and thereby improve profits
  • How to increase client satisfaction
  • Ways to streamline tasks and improve efficiency
Learning Objectives: Participants will learn how to:
  • Recognize how a “touch-it-once philosophy” pays off in unexpected areas
  • Identify how to properly assess and maintain the collective value of a client base over exceptions based on individual preference
  • List third-party applications and how to maximize their value
  • Live demo walkthrough of a transaction-based workflow

Live Ethics Course

A CPA’s Guidebook for Ethical Behavior:

A CPE Ethics Course for Texas CPAs

Friday, August 27, 2021

You are invited to join us for our monthly, State-approved, four-hour Ethics course, A CPA’s Guidebook for Ethical Behavior: A CPE Ethics Course for Texas CPAs.
Speaker and author, Allison M. McLeod, LL.M., CPA, will educate and inform CPAs not just on what is the right thing to do according to the Texas Rules of Professional Conduct but how to put your values into action!  As part of this course, we will also look at various schools of ethical thought and walk through real world examples of individuals and companies faced with moral dilemmas.
Description: A CPA is challenged in today’s work world to not only serve his/her client or employer but also to protect the public interest by ensuring that there is transparency in financial reporting or there is fair administration of the tax laws. In balancing the two interests, a CPA may find him or herself in an ethical dilemma. This course covers not only basic ethical frameworks, but also specific rules governing CPA practice and responsibilities. It concludes with a section on how a CPA can put his or her ethics into action.
Learning Objectives:
  1. To educate licensees in ethics of professional accounting as Texas CPAs.
  2. To convey the intent of the Texas Rules of Professional Conduct and the AICPA Code of Professional Conduct in the performance of professional accounting services/work, not to adhere to the mere technical compliance of such rules.
  3. To assist the Texas CPA in applying ethical judgment in interpreting the rules and determining public interest. Public interest should be placed ahead of self-interest, even if it means a loss of job or client.
  4. To review and discuss the Texas Rules of Professional Conduct and their implications for persons in a variety of practices, including:
    • CPAs in client practice of public accountancy who perform attest and non-attest services.
    • CPAs employed in industry who provide internal accounting and auditing services.
    • CPAs employed in education or in government accounting or auditing.

This is a live, in-person event.

Let TXCPA CPA-PAC Chair Terri Hornberger explain here how the respect for our PAC helped change the deadline. Donate today to keep your profession strong.

Didn’t Get Fingerprinted Yet? The PAC Has You Covered.

Before TXCPA stepped in, every CPA in Texas – along with most other licensed professionals – had to have submitted fingerprints to the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy by September 1, 2021. That deadline became unreasonable and unsafe in a COVID environment and thanks to TXCPA’s credibility with the legislature, we were able to get that deadline pushed back a year. A lot of groups try to get bills passed, but they don’t have the success we do because they don’t have a PAC as strong and respected as TXCPA’s. Lawmakers trust CPAs to shoot straight with them, and that’s because they know our PAC is strong and honest. Making a PAC donation is the fastest, simplest way to help keep Texas CPAs strong. For this year only, the PAC fundraising year runs through March of 2022. Make your contribution today to keep your profession strong.
