Chairman’s Message
By Jason Freeman, CPA
Normally, this is the time of year when thoughts turn to football and the coming school year. Of course, 2020 is teaching us a whole new definition of “normal”, and the final word on what that means for sports and education is still to be written. While TXCPA Dallas can’t predict when the stands will fill with screaming fans again, or classrooms with children, we have several August activities to occupy you while the details are sorted out.
August has a number of great CPE opportunities. Steve Tillinger presents two of his popular courses online this month: Mid-year Federal Tax Update (Wednesday, August 19th) and Partnerships/LLCs Tax Issues & Update (Monday, August 31st). We will also hold a live, web-based Ethics course on Friday, August 21st. You can fill your State Ethics requirement and enjoy a live presentation taught by Dr. Richard Mark in the comfort of your own home! On Monday, the 24th, Adam Tarnow will teach both in person and online about Working with Goldfish: How Learning to Engage the Easily Distracted Will Strengthen Your Team and Grow Your Practice.
If you’ve had enough of quarantine and are looking for an opportunity to socialize safely, we invite you to grab your favorite beverage and join us on August 27th for our monthly networking hour, Thirsty Thursday, virtual-style. We had so much fun at the June event, we decided to do it again, and we hope you can make it.
We are living in epic, turbulent times, no doubt. But while we wait for the world to decide the new parameters for our everyday lives, be assured that TXCPA Dallas is doing all we can to provide you, our members, with the same support and opportunities you’ve come to expect from the organization that has survived all the challenges of the last 90 years. We’ve got this.

Giving Back
Child Advocacy Center of Collin County
Back to School Fair
In an effort to keep active in serving our community in this time of social distancing, TXCPA Dallas CPA Involvement Committee, in conjunction with the Young Professionals Group, is partnering with the Children’s Advocacy Center of Collin County to support their Back to School Fair – Drive-Thru Edition. The Center’s mission is to provide safety, healing, and justice for children victimized by abuse or neglect in our community. You can learn more about them on their website.
The center is in urgent need of supplies to ensure a successful Back to School Fair for the new school year. To support this effort, TXCPA Dallas members can make contributions in one of two ways before August 7:
- Go to this webpage to make a donation directly to the center to purchase one or more complete backpacks at $30 per backpack.
- Go to CACC Wish List to shop the Center’s Amazon Wish list for backpacks that will be filled with school supplies. By shopping directly at the link, the products will be delivered directly to the Children’s Advocacy Center of Collin County.
