Chairman’s Message
By Bill Sims, CPA
We are certainly living in interesting times. During this challenging and unprecedented experience, TXCPA Dallas wants to assure you that your educational needs are still one of our top priorities, and we are doing all we can to continue providing the quality CPE opportunities you expect from your professional association.
To that end, and in light of the uncertainty of the current public health crisis, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the May 4th Convergence 2020 live event and will replace it with an eight-hour, online event that will take place also on May 4, 2020. For those who had registered for the live version, you should have received an email by now detailing information regarding your registration fee. For those who had not registered for the live event, you will have an opportunity to enroll for what we are expecting will be another great TXCPA Dallas educational offering. A webpage will be set up next week that will include a list of the session titles to be presented in this webinar, as well as a link through which you may sign up, if you did not sign up for the live event. We’re excited about this new program and hope you’ll be able to join us.
I would like to take this opportunity to send a sincere thank you to the generous organizations that sponsored this year’s Convergence program. Your support and enthusiasm for our keystone event allows us to come back year after year. We’re already looking forward to Convergence 2021, and we hope you’ll all be there with us again.
Another opportunity for CPE comes on Monday, April 20, when Sarah Grenier, Bill Moss and I will also move from our scheduled spot in TXCPA Dallas training room to an online platform to present a four-hour webinar, Nonprofit Accounting Topics. This course will address key areas unique to nonprofits from an accounting and auditing perspective. You may register for this event through the article elsewhere in the newsletter.
While this pandemic rages, we send our thoughts and prayers to all those impacted by it, personally and/or professionally. Our wish is that you and yours stay healthy and safe, and hopeful for better days to come.

TXCPA Dallas
Scholarship Winner Spotlight
Each month, we will spotlight one of this year’s TXCPA Dallas Scholarship winners. Join us this month in getting to know University of North Texas (UNT) graduate accounting student, Katie Ricketson, and welcoming her to TXCPA Dallas.
Katie Ricketson’s philosophy is that being a well-rounded person is as important as being academically competent, a philosophy she has demonstrated well by her active participation in several UNT campus organizations. In addition to being highly competent academically – she finished both the 2018 and 2019 Spring semesters with 4.0 GPAs – she has also excelled in extracurricular activities.
Katie has been a TXCPA Student Ambassador to UNT and a dedicated member of the university’s chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, serving as its Vice President as well as a mentor to other student members. She has also been a member of the National Society for Collegiate Scholars and the Accounting Scholars Program, in which she also participated as a mentor.
Katie’s academic abilities have been abundantly recognized. She received the UNT Excellence and College of Business General Scholarships; Financial Executives International’s Outstanding Achievement Scholarship; UNT’s Scholarship for Continuing Education; and the BKD Scholarship. She has also been on the UNT President’s List multiple semesters and was a member of the 1st Place team in the 2018 Grant Thornton Case Competition.
Katie has interned at KHA Accountants and expects to receive her M.S. in Accounting with a concentration in Taxation in May of 2021.
TXCPA Dallas welcomes and congratulates Katie Ricketson.
