Do you find your schedule practically filling itself this time of year? The Dallas CPA Society's calendar is filling up! Our to-do list is growing by the hour, and we couldn't be more excited about the items on it.

You'll want to find a spot on your to-do list for some of the excellent CPE we're offering through the end of the year. Jennifer Johnson will present an Advanced Excel class on November 8th as part of the ongoing Controller/CFO CPE Series. The program will continue in December with a course, Cash Management, led by Bill Moss on December 6th, and Jennifer will return with her Intro to Excel class. On November 29th, you can join us for another installment in the Member Appreciation CPE Series. This low-cost, four-hour event continues to be one of our most popular member benefits, and you won't want to miss the outstanding speakers and subject matter we are lining up for the 29th. Steve Tillinger is back again on December 8th to share his knowledge and insights in the Federal Tax Update, and we'll close 2017 with Jennifer's Excel class on December 18th.

Speaking of CPE, mark your calendars and hold onto your hats - or should we say "helmets"? - because on May 11, 2018, we're taking our Convergence conference out for a little road game. Convergence 2018 will take place at the Omni Frisco Hotel outside the new Dallas Cowboys headquarters, The Star! As if that weren't exciting enough, halftime commentary (i.e.: the luncheon keynote address) will be delivered on the indoor practice field by none other than Jerry Jones, Sr., owner, president and general manager of the Cowboys, and new inductee to the Pro Football Hall of Fame! Details are unfolding daily, so circle the date, watch your email and get ready for six months of football metaphors! GO COWBOYS!

It's the time of year for giving back, and if your to-do list has room for some community involvement, we have some resources to fill it. Fall Fest is an annual event bringing together the city's premier young professional groups for a night of networking and fundraising for Big Brothers Big Sisters. Hosted by six area young professionals associations, this year's event takes place on November 15th, 6-9pm, at Mac's Southside in Dallas. For a suggested $10 donation, DCPAS members 36 years of age and under can enjoy drinks, hors d'oeuvres, networking and the satisfaction that comes from contributing to a good cause. If the outdoors is more your thing, we have the White Rock Lake Clean-up on Saturday morning, November 18th. We hope you'll join us for some fun and exercise, as we work to help keep the park safe and looking great for kids, adults, pets and wildlife. If you're interested in participating, contact Lauren Hendricks at lhendricks@cpadallas.org.

When you've finished slaving over all your to-do's, you'll be looking for some opportunities to relax. On November 16th, you can do just that at our Thirsty Thursday social hour. This month we will see you at Coal Vines on Beltline Road. Another Brown Bag Luncheon will be held on December 1st, 11:30am, for those of us for whom attending nighttime social events can be a challenge. We'll be meeting in the DCPAS Training Facility again for an open discussion on work/life flexibility and working parents sharing tips for enjoying the holiday season. I hope you'll bring your lunch and join us for this conversation. The December Thirsty Thursday event will be replaced by our Chapter Holiday Party on December 14th. This gala tradition will take place once again in the festive Park City Club venue where we will enjoy a delicious buffet, beverages and the company of our fellow members as we celebrate the holiday season in grand DCPAS style! I hope to see you there.

So…let's review our to-do list:
  • Attend the outstanding variety of CPE events offered by the Chapter;
  • Plan to register in December for the Super Bowl of Convergence conferences;
  • Give some time to a great cause; and
  • Join your fellow association members for fun, food and general merrymaking.
And I'll add one more item to that list:
  • Have a very happy - and safe - Thanksgiving!
