Here we are in December; arguably, the busiest month of the year. Filled with holiday preparations and festivities, we find our December calendars bulging with more activities than one could be expected to do in the other 11 months combined! At the Dallas CPA Society, our December is much like yours. Between classes, committee meetings, scheduled events and planning for those coming up, this month is overflowing!

On December 14th, we look forward to seeing you at Park City Club for our annual Holiday Party. This DCPAS tradition has become one of our most popular social events. The beautifully appointed venue will sparkle, the refreshments will be delicious and plentiful, and the company will delight you. There's no charge for this event, we just request an RSVP. I hope to see you there.

There will be another class in the Controller/CFO CPE Series program, Intro to Excel, on December 18th. This CPE program, geared specifically to our Business and Industry members, continues to garner attendance and praise, and the Excel classes, taught by Jennifer Johnson of UTD, are among the fan favorites. If you have little Excel experience and would like to expand your knowledge and skills, or just learn a few tips and tricks, sign up for Jennifer's class now, as space is limited.

Our Annual Meeting of Members is scheduled for January 17th at Royal Oaks Country Club. As this year's keynote speaker, Zain Ali, Managing Partner of Sunbonn, and a prolific author and speaker on the subjects of leadership and workplace dynamics, will present "Cultivating a Culture of Engagement". Zain's insights are certain to be both entertaining and educational and the highlight of this event where we will also catch up on the association's activities of the last year and elect a new group of DCPAS officers for 2018-19. Sign up now and be there!

On May 11th, we will top off this very successful 2017-18 year with what I believe may be the most exciting Convergence conference we've ever presented. Convergence 2018 will be held in the Omni Frisco Hotel, with the luncheon located on the covered practice field of the Dallas Cowboys' brand new headquarters, The Star! And if that wasn't enough, on top of the usual excellent speakers and presentations we've all come to expect, our luncheon keynote address will be delivered by the Head Cowboy himself, Jerry Jones! Registration will open soon, and we anticipate a high volume, so watch your inbox for the notice and enroll early to guarantee a space for this not-to-be-missed event!

As 2017 draws to a close, on behalf of the Dallas CPA Society, let me thank you for your continued participation and support. Together, we've made it a great year. Let's go forward into an even better 2018!

Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah to You and Yours, and…

Legislative Affairs
PAC Notes
Aren't you glad you're not a doctor?

The Texas Medical Board just went through sunset review (licensing renewal), and their continuing legislation failed to pass during the regular session. If the legislature hadn't passed the doctors' sunset bill during the special session, physicians were slated to become non-existent in the state of Texas.

CPAs will have their own sunset bill to pass next session. Only a strong PAC can prevent what happened to the doctors from happening to us.

It's up to us to step up and protect the CPA profession. We can't be asleep at the switch like the doctors were.

You may donate to the CPA PAC here.
