Controller
June Shelton School and Evaluation Center seeks Controller to manage day-to-day accounting including general ledger, payables, receivables and payroll in accordance with GAAP.Responsible for financial statement preparation, comparison and analysis versus budgets and coordinates budget development with all departments. Lead contact for external financial audits, 990 and 5500 preparation.

Will report to the CFO and supervise a staff of four. Assists CFO with special projects and compliance with legal, fiduciary and all government reporting requirements.

Requirements: Degree with a major or emphasis in accounting or finance.CPA certificate or active pursuit of licensing is essential. Minimum of fiveyears' experience with at least one year asa Controller or Accounting Manager. Computer skills are critical and familiarity with multiple integrated accounting systems a plus.

Compensation: Competitive and commensurate with experience. Benefits include STD, LTD, life insurance, assistance with medical plan and a matching retirement plan. With school schedules, the position has generous time off and vacation.

Tax Manager Role
The Tax Manager role is held by an experienced CPA who is a key member of our team, supervising tax staff members and managing the tax planning and compliance services of the firm.

Key Responsibilities

Tax Planning
  • Collaborate with financial counselors to develop and maintain key tax strategies
  • Participate in annual client meetings to stay current on each individual situation

  • Evaluate current and emerging legislation to identify changes in practice
Tax Compliance

  • Additional exposure to C-corporation, trust, tax-exempt and estate returns
Engagement Management
  • Responsible for all tax preparation engagements and communication with clients
  • Supervise tax staff and ensure quality of services
  • Maintenance and improvement of current processes and systems
  • Evaluate tax department resources on ongoing basis

Chief Financial Officer
Our Client, an established nonprofit and leader in our community, is seeking a Chief Financial Officer. The Chief Financial Officer's primary purpose is to maintain the financial integrity of The Foundation by insuring the accurate and timely implementation and accounting of The Foundation's finances and investments according to the policies and procedures developed by the Board of Governors; by insuring the accurate and up-to-date maintenance of all Foundation financial records; and by providing assistance to the President & CEO as required.

Duties and Responsibilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The duties and responsibilities include the following, though other duties may be assigned.

Financial Management & Reporting:
  • Oversee and manage The Foundation's annual audit, including the preparation of financial statements and accompanying notes in accordance with GAAP and the preparation of supporting schedules
  • Manage communication with The Foundation's auditors
  • Stay up-to-date on various accounting rules that relate to the field and take appropriate actions as needed
  • Implement recommended changes as directed by the Finance/Audit/Investment Committee
  • Oversee all input to the general ledger in order to ensure accuracy of external financial statements as well as various reports for the Board, staff, donors, and other interested parties
  • Establish and maintain the general ledger chart of accounts
  • Work with tax counsel to prepare and file The Foundation's annual Form 990
  • Report to the full Board and finance committee on all financial matters
  • Provide information to other committees as needed where broader financial, strategic, and/or analytical expertise is required (Board materials include quarterly interim financial statements and quarterly Board dashboards)
  • Prepare interim quarterly financial statements for the Board
  • Oversee The Foundation's internal controls and work with the Controller to implement them
  • Prepare quarterly donor fund statements and accompanying letters
  • Establish short-term and long-term financial goals for The Foundation, working with the Board and staff to establish them
  • Monitor and report on progress toward goals as needed
  • Manage risk with respect to The Foundation's investments and other potential vulnerabilities
Investments:
  • Work with the Finance/Audit/Investment Committee and outside investment consultants to establish policies and procedures (asset allocation, manager selection, rebalancing, etc.) for managing The Foundation's various investment portfolios and ensure follow through on these policies
  • Provide quarterly investment reports to the Board and to appropriate fund representatives
  • As needed, communicate The Foundation's investment strategy to current and/or potential donors
  • Work with outside managers to establish and maintain an acceptable investment approach (with guidance from investment consultant)
  • On a monthly basis, provide investment performance returns by fund to Controller for comparisons to pool returns to ensure accuracy
Budget and Financial Sustainability:
  • Responsible for preparing the annual budget and ensuring that it is monitored throughout the year
  • Evaluate and keep President and Board apprised of its sustainability in relation to The Foundation's financial goals and objectives (this includes developing financial forecasts and assessing key performance indicators such as benchmarking the cost efficiency and staffing efficiency to industry standards)
  • Establish and oversee a fee structure to adequately generate revenue to cover The Foundation's operating costs each year
  • Negotiate special fee arrangements as necessary
Development/Donor Services Support:
  • Provide information and presentation materials relating to fund investment philosophy and performance, fees, financial statistics, etc., for dissemination to donors and professional advisors
  • Work as needed with fund representatives and high priority (VIP) donors, either current or prospective, to provide tailored services and/or facilitate issues related to fund investments or other financial matters including the receipt of nontraditional gifts such as real estate and closely held securities
Other Responsibilities:
  • Prepare customized financial reports as necessary to staff, donors, various committees of the Board and other interested parties
  • Work with outside service provider to process payroll and maintain current payroll records
  • Work with retirement plan provider to administer The Foundation's 401(k) plan and file Form 5500
  • Directly supervise the Controller and Staff Accountant and assist the President & CEO with the selection and evaluation of finance staff
  • Provide research and analysis on special projects as necessary
  • Prepare annual Unrestricted Fund spending level report
  • Participate in national collaborative efforts, which contribute to the advancement of The Foundation and the field in general
Supervisory Responsibilities: Controller; Staff Accountant

Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field from four-year college or university required. At least ten years related experience and/or training. CPA preferred (or relative experience).
